Suan Zao Ren Tang translates as Sour Jujube Decoction is an ancient formula created in the third century by the so-called Chinese Hippocrates, Zhang Zhongjing. The formula derives its name from the main ingredient, Suan Zao Ren, known to have moderate sedative properties. Despite its age, this formula is still one of the go-to formulas used today for treating insomnia caused by an overactive mind or menopause.
